Space Strategy Game
A simplified strategy and resource gathering game prototype with a cartoon art style, set in a galaxy that`s procedurally generated at the beginning of the game.
I researched topics about galaxy structure, star classification and exoplanets (things I actually like a lot), and devised the algorithms that generate the game map based on defined parameters.
Galaxies:
The stars are placed according to templates that outline the base galaxy shape, from two or four armed spirals to rings, ovals, etc. The ratio of stars on each shape and ratio of each star class are also configurable.
Star Systems and Planets:
Each star has a varied amount of planets, and their characteristics are influenced by the star class and their orbit distance, from their size class to their atmosphere and temperature. The planet visual is them generated based on it`s characteristics.
I directed the artist as she created the base surface and atmosphere textures, 5 for each type, and also the lookup textures used in coloring the planets' features.
I also made the custom shaders to achieve the desired style and effects.
